Musical Notes: seven letters make up the musical alphabet.
They are: A B C D E F G These letters denote the white keys, which are set in continuous groups of seven.
The black keys are set in groups of twos and threes; this visual pattern helps to locate the position of the central note in the seven, which is below and between the two black keys. The StavePut system calls this key Middle D.
For understanding purposes, the keyboard above has been divided to show the relationship between the notes and the written music.
